Waimate Repel Old Boy’s Challenge

Waimate managed to repel Old Boys’ challenge 26-12 after being down at halftime and the win was enough to secure third spot and have home advantage in the sudden-death third-fourth play-off.

In Waimate the hosts struggled to get anything going early so Old Boys certainly deserved their 12-6 halftime lead. Waimate improved in the second half with tries to midfielders Matt Hayman and Simon Proudfoot but will not want to start slowly against Temuka.

For the victors, frontrower Darren Strange played well while Hayman and Jackson Henshaw were the best of the backs.

For Old Boys the pace of the game at the end caught them out but loose forward Gary Tutunoa had another good performance along with Michael Edmonston while the best backs were Bradley Leonard and Ben Baird.
