Wallabies Repel Magpie Threat

Waimate held out for a 24-20 win over an improving Temuka but the Magpies remain winless and have a lot of work to do if they hope to break into the top four.

At Waimate, the hosts were up 17-6 against Temuka before the Magpies roared back into life in the second half and only stout defence in the last 10 minutes held them out.

It was one of those games where whoever lost would go home disappointed.

For the Wallabies, try scorers Kurt Rooney and Ian Thompson were the best of the backs while in the forwards Shannon Howe and Scott Buckingham, in his first game of the season, impressed.
