Bugger! Waimate Seniors miss Top 4 on Countback.

Waimate Seniors will have to look forward positively to dominating the bottom 4 section after Mackenzie sneaked ahead of Waimate on points differential to take fourth position in the Hamersley Cup.

Celtic beat Waimate 49-43 at Manchester Park in one of the better games of rugby to watch this season (except for the result), and Celtic coach Nigel Walsh praised both side’s efforts after a high-scoring match. Celtic scored eight tries to six, including a hat-trick to left-wing Aporosa Tabulawaki, and a brace to centre Tevita Latu.

Waimate first-five Miles Medlicott and centre Matt Hayman scored two tries apiece, while utility back George Williams kicked five conversions and a penalty.

Coach Warren Rooney was bitterly disappointed at his side’s failure to reach the semifinals.

“We did so well to score six tries against Celtic. We were hitting our straps, and I think we had enough depth in our squad to go further,”  he said.
