Senior Waimate defeated Geraldine 19 – 7
At Waimate the home side led 7-0 at the break and never looked in too much danger.
Waimate should have grabbed the four-try bonus point but blew a couple of opportunities.
It was good to see Kurt Rooney back playing after a health scare and he was one of the try scorers along with openside Aaron Clarke and Steve Macaulay, who had just arrived from Ireland.
Clarke and Macaulay were two of Waimate’s standouts along with Jamie Engelbrecht, who did good work in the lineout and around the track, while Irish prop Peter Reilly also impressed.
The only letdown for the hosts was losing No 8 Loni Toumohuni to a red card in the second half after he had a brain explosion and threw a haymaker that had little impact.
Geraldine, coming off a good performance against Celtic, failed to fire a shot.
Senior B Waimate defeated 39 – 6
While some of the faces were from another era (as shown below), the Senior B sides numbers are improving each week, and despite the muddy playing conditions Waimate turned in a very good performance scoring lots of tries as they dominated their opposition on Manchester Park No 1 and got their hands firmly around the cup.
