Waimate had to setlte for their second draw in two weeks, after a 17-all result against Mackenzie.
In Fairlie, Waimate led 14-0 at half time but Mackenzie never lay down and a converted try late in the game secured their half of the competition points. For Waimate open side Tim Caird impressed while Dan Patterson had a tidy game at first five and scored the first try.
Waimate were up 17-0 with 20 minutes to go but the Rams roared back into life with Hayden Dwyer scoring late to get them out of gaol.
For Mackenzie Aaron McCall had a strong game at lock, halfback George Lott’s return from injury was a big bonus and centre George Folau had a strong game, including the turnover that led to the final try.
The Senior Bs had yet another tight match finally losing by one point 22 – 23 despite several attempts in the last 15 minutes to score again as the match went up and down the field as both teams attacked but were unable to score the decisive points.
Vice captain Matt Devlin was thr player of the dy and then delivered the best after-match speech of the night after having to substitute for captain Ryan Luckman who had to rush off as a new father.
